Professional Conduct

Professional Practice

Professional conduct is expected of all regulated members of the Paramedic Association of New Brunswick and is outlined in the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. As a self-regulating health profession in New Brunswick, it is the Association’s legislative requirement to ensure appropriate regulation of members’ conduct as it applies to the protection of the public.

Scope of Practice

PANB Adopts the National Competency Framework for  Paramedics, Replacing the NOCP and Aligns Regulation with New Brunswick’s Fair Registration Practices in Regulated Professions Act

NCFP + Education Program Standard adopted. The PANB Board of Directors has unanimously approved the transition plan from the National Occupancy Competency Profile (NOCP) to the National Competency Framework for Paramedics (NCFP) and adopted the Education Program Standard as NB’s new benchmark for education approval. PANB laid the groundwork in 2011 to ensure paramedics in this province would continue to practice according to the newest version of the NOCP’s available at that time. This ensures our professionals are at the top of their game and leading the way in paramedicine.

Practice Advisories

Practice Advisories and Guidelines

As part of its mandate to serve and protect the public interest as it relates to the practice of Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics, the Paramedic Association of New Brunswick works with experts in their fields to develop professional practice guidance for its registrants. Guidance is published in the form of either professional practice guidelines or practice advisories, depending on the scope and nature of the topic.

Both types of documents assist registrants in meeting their professional obligations under the Paramedic Act and Bylaws by establishing expectations and obligations of professional practice in relation to specific professional activities. Registrants are required to stay informed of, be knowledgeable about, and meet the intent of guidance documents that are relevant to their area of practice.
