Lt. Gov. Brenda Murphy attended the Paramedic Association of New Brunswick Annual Award Gala held in Fredericton on October 14th and presented several New Brunswick Paramedics with the Emergency Medical Services Exemplary Service Medal/Bars. The Exemplary Service Medals recognize those persons in high-risk professions who have dedicated themselves to preserving Canada’s public safety through long and outstanding service. The awards are national in scope and are part of the Canadian honours system. Whether their work is highly visible or rarely carried out in the public eye, the men and women of our protective services face daily exposure to the potential dangers inherent to their professions. By performing their vital duties in an exemplary manner, they improve the quality of our lives and our sense of security.
Lt. Gov. Murphy congratulated all award recipients adding she is in awe of those receiving long-service awards, and incredibly grateful for the care you’ve given the people of this province. You are dedicated professionals who carry an enormous burden, with exceptional grace and professionalism. The work accomplished on a daily basis is admirable. Even the smallest of gestures can have an enormous impact on the people you interact with – the people you care for. Dealing with vulnerable people, some of whom struggle with mental health and addictions, is not easy. It requires patience, empathy, and compassion. Above all, it requires humanity.
